The college of life sciences at Shandong Agricultural University was founded in 1998. Currently, there are 5 departments including Botany, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biotechnology in the life sciences. The State Key Laboratory of Crop Biology, the State Center for Teaching Experiments of Agricultural Biology and the Provincial Center for Teaching Experiments of Biotechnology and Bioengineering are affiliated with the college.

Right now there are 118 faculty and staff members associated with the college, including 37 professors, 36 associate professors. Our faculty includes chief scientists National Key Basic of Research Project, National Distinguished Young Scientist awardees, Taishan Scholars and distinguished professors with various honors. Besides, there are several national research teams and teaching teams at the college .

 For undergraduate education, we have three majors of Biotechnology, Bioengineering and Biological Sciences, among which the program of Biotechnology is featured at the national level. About 400 students are enrolled annually in the college. Ourgraduate programs have a reputation for producing professionals and researchers who have a major impact in China. Five programs including Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Microbiology and Cell Biology offer both doctoral and master’s degrees, in which about 180 graduate students are enrolled annually. In addition, postdoc position in Biology are opened for application at anytime.

Since 2016, the discipline of plant and animal sciences in the college obtained a 50 million RMB funding supported by the government of Shandong Province. Over 60 research projects were funded by National Key Basic Research Project, National Natural Science Foundation, National Transgenic Plants Special Research Project, Provincial Natural Science Foundation and Biological Companies, respectively.

Our college also established cooperative research centers with many large and medium-size enterprises in the country, as well as collaborative relationships on research with multiple universities and institutions from US, Germany, Japan, Korea, Spain, Slovakia, etc. Independent research opportunities in life sciences are available. The College of Life Sciences promotes excellence in research, teaching, and public service across the plant, animal, and microbiology sciences.
